The cross-linked PVPP homopolymer is highly hydrophilic and will rapidly absorb water on contact to swell and create internal stress points that will break-up tablets, while maintaining low friability and compatibility with other formulation ingredients.

It can be incorporated into laundry detergent tablets, where, through a rapid build up of hydrostatic pressure, it causes the break up of the tablet into its primary particles and so speeds the rate of dissolution.
